HM, HALUT – The price of fruit coconuts and copra in North Halmahera Regency continues to rise. Currently, the price of copra has reached Rp15,000 per kilogram, while the price of fruit coconuts has increased to Rp2,500 per fruit.
This surge in coconut commodity prices has occurred since the presence of PT NICO in North Halmahera in 2019 and began full operations in 2022. The presence of this company brings a domino effect that has a positive impact on the community’s economy, especially for coconut plantation owners and copra farmers.
In addition to providing a significant economic impact, PT NICO also plays a role in reducing the unemployment rate in North Halmahera. Since operating in 2022, the company has absorbed a large number of workers, empowering many local human resources.
The presence of PT NICO was welcomed by copra farmers and coconut plantation owners, including Drs. Wenas Rompis. In his interview with this media on Wednesday (19/02/2025), Wenas revealed that the presence of PT NICO is very helpful in the midst of the current economic conditions. According to him, this company has contributed greatly to improving the welfare of the community, especially coconut farmers.
“On behalf of the coconut plantation owners and coconut farmers, I feel very grateful and thankful because the price of copra has increased,” he said.
With a better price standard, continued Wenas, coconut owners and farmers feel greatly helped. Not only from the sale of coconut fruit, but also from the sale of copra which is now able to improve the standard of living of the community.
“We should be grateful to PT NICO, because with the dynamics and conditions that exist, the price of Copra automatically benefits the community, especially coconut farmers,” he said.
Wenas added, with the current good price of coconut, it provides tremendous benefits to the community. According to him, with the current copra yield, many farmers can improve their economy, in financing their children’s education.
“All of this is inseparable from the presence of PT NICO which provides coconut price competition in the community”, he added.
As the owner of a coconut hamlet and a coconut farmer, Wenas can’t stop expressing his gratitude to PT NICO, and local buyers of copra. Because of the breakthrough in the price of copra that was fought for, the price of coconut is getting better.
In addition, Wenas also appreciated PT NICO for the provision of 55 coconut stakes, which helped encourage coconut price competition in the local market of North Halmahera Regency. He also expressed his appreciation to local entrepreneurs who continue to innovate and compete in the coconut industry to improve the welfare of the community.
