Most people may have heard of the term love language, but there is another “language” that is important for you to know, stress language. So, what exactly is stress language?

Stress language is everyone’s way of describing what they are feeling when they are facing a problem. Just like love language, recognizing stress languange can also help us to overcome our stress problems and how we can communicate with others, be it friends, partners and family. Let’s recognize 4 types of stress language and know how to overcome them!

FIGHT RESPONSE

The first type of stress language is fight. Fight is a person’s stress response in an explosive way, such as shouting, yelling, agitated, aggressive and also attacking others. People with this type of stress language prefer to solve problems as quickly as possible rather than staying silent.

If you belong to this type, try these ways to handle stress better:

  • Meditation
  • Do exercise to vent your emotions
  • Cry

FLIGHT RESPONSE

People who have a flight response type usually avoid conflict by changing the subject, often denying, and bottling up their emotions. They also find it difficult to express their feelings and choose to distance themselves or hide from their surroundings. Physically, the physical response is usually anxiety, restlessness and constantly moving hands and feet. The best way to overcome this is to learn to communicate well, and be brave enough to face uncomfortable or negative feelings.

FREEZE RESPONSE

Freeze or block the threat of channeling their feelings by distancing themselves or hiding from their surroundings and isolating themselves. People with this type are usually confused to solve existing problems, and tend to blame themselves when facing problems. Here are some ways to manage stress for you with this type:

  • Try meditation or yoga
  • Let your emotions out by crying
  • Journaling to pour out the emotions felt

FAWN RESPONSE

Fawn response occurs when a person responds to stress by making people around them happy, such as giving in, always saying “yes”, and apologizing excessively because they are afraid of facing stress alone. In addition, people with the fawn type also always try to meet people’s expectations. For those of you with this type of stress language, you can try some of the methods below:

  • Set boundaries
  • Dare to refuse something if it feels like a burden to yourself
  • Be yourself
