Indonesian Sweet Coconut Rice Porridge

Takjil is one of the most awaited things during the fasting month. Starting from fried snacks, to sweet drinks. One of the favorite takjil for many people is bubur sumsum or Indonesian sweet coconut rice porridge. It can be enjoyed warm or cold. Check out the bubur sumsum recipe below to enjoy with your loved ones.

Bubur sumsum ingredients:

  • 100 g rice flour
  • 700 ml water
  • 1 pcs MamaKoKo coconut milk
  • 1 pandan leaf
  • 1 tsp salt

Brown sugar sauce ingredients:

  • 160 g brown sugar
  • 300 ml water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 pandan leaf

How to make:

  1. Combine rice flour, MamaKoKo coconut milk and salt into a container. Add water little by little while stirring well
  2. Add pandan leaf and cook over medium heat while stirring continuously until it becomes porridge. Set aside
  3. Time to make brown sugar sauce. Add the brown sugar, water and pandan leaf, cook until the brown sugar melts, then strain and pour back into the pot
  4. Add the cornstarch solution and cook for a minute. Set aside
  5. Then strain the brown sugar and pour it back into the pot. Add the cornstarch and cook again, then set aside.
  6. Prepare bowl, then pour the sweet coconut rice porridge and add brown sugar sauce
  7. Enjoy the sweet coconut rice porridge while its warm
